Q. Does dice setting reall work?
A. It's been posted that if you can only control 1 roll out of 43 rolls you turn a negative expectation game into a positive expectation game. With a little practice you can do much, much better than that.
Q. How do you compute the SRR?
A. I compute the SRR (Sevens to Roll Ratio) by dividing your total number of tosses by the number of sevens you threw. Thus, throwing six (6) sevens in 36 rolls computes to an SRR of 6.0.
Q. How many tosses should I throw in a practice session?
A. When I first started practicing I would try to throw in groups of 36, 36, 72, 108, etc. That way it made it easy to compute my SRR for each practice session. Now, with TossTrack it really doesn't make any difference how many, or how few tosses I throw. If practice isn't going well I take a break (just like in the casinos) and try later.
Q. How often do I need to Practice?
A. It depends on how good you want to become. Like any other skill, the more you practice, the more proficient you will become at this skill. The Mad Professor recommends 10 hours of practice for every hour of in casino play.
Q. What is the distance from various table positions to the back wall?
A. It depends on the length of the crap table. I prefer the 12 foot tables and would suggest this as a starting point for new setters. From stick right to the back wall is approximately 8 foot 2 inches. Some stick people will move back out of your way (especially if you're betting for them) and let you lean to the left. I'm right handed so it really shortens the toss by a good foot or two.
Q. What's so important about Signature Numbers?
A. Determining what your own personal signature numbers are helps you determine how to bet when you are at the tables. While the 6 and 8 are the easiest numbers to throw (other than the 7), if you consistently throw 5's you need to be betting on the 5 and maximizing your profits based on this knowledge.
Q. Where can I practice?
A. You can virtually practice anywhere. Shortly after I became a dice setter I went on a trip with my wife to Arizona. She's a late sleeper and I had nothing to do so I simply put a pillow up against the wall and tossed the dice on the floor. I had a number of rolls in the 20 -30 range. Some setters have suggested lining a chest drawer with a towel and tossing the dice into the drawer. I've been known to remove a drawer and place it on a bed. Of course the best way is to build or buy a practice table. Dicesetter.com has all of that information.
Q. Why should I track my toss sessions every time?
A. As you become more proficient at tossing dice both your SRR and your signature numbers will probably change. TossTrack has a number of options that allow you to look at your SRR and Signature Numbers by date range, set and grip.
